Out of all the songs I’ve written, this is probably the one with the most potential to get me into trouble…haha…It’s based on real life events. Even though the parties involved are from my relatively distant past, and will likely never hear this song, I think common decency is to respect others’ privacy. So don’t ask. :)
It’s also my only song so far to contain a drug reference. I often joke that gives me street cred. (Read: no it doesn’t.)
It’s about a girl who falls in love with a rock musician who doesn’t reciprocate her feelings and treats her like dirt. However, this girl is so wrapped up in the rock and roll fantasy of what life with this guy would be like, that she continues to chase him, only to have her heart broken repeatedly.
The lyrics sort of play on Shakespearean tragedy…of falling in love with a certain character archetype, rather than seeing the person for who they actually are. And also trying to turn oneself into the type of character one imagines might fit this person’s world. In other words, “looking the part”. I guess all those literature classes I thought I’d zoned out in during college weren’t a total waste of time. It was all worth it just to get this song.
